You see 1 is a big deal to Mom and Dad. The baby is 1...it even sounds exciting. The baby I'm sure loves the attention but usually isn't too fond of the cake yet. And it is really Mom who welcomes the new toys to play with.
2: Well, they are excited to open presents but the anticipation factor hasn't totally kicked in at that point. Their older siblings sure appreciate the opportunity for cake, though!
But 3....Well 3 is BIG...really big. Anticipation is in full swing...it is well known to a 3 year old that you can request certain presents, that you WILL have a birthday party and get more presents, and there will be cake.
And those amazing presents...well...they must go everywhere with you.
Yes, everywhere.

WOW
You even get to be the "Leader" at school- a highly coveted role for a pre- schooler.
Isn't it great! Think back to your birthdays. Think about what made them special. Once I remember my mom letting me pick what I wanted to eat for my birthday: rye bread pizzas and eggrolls...oh and cherry cake with pink cherry icing, I couldn't have imagined anything better! For the record: Jack chose pumpkin pancakes and brownies, my kind of guy :)
Birthdays are so special because they are all about you, sort of. Stay with me here....it is mostly about you. But, there will always be a chunk of that day that is for everyone who loves you. I can't help but get little tears on each birthday, remembering when I was blessed with this sweet child. Introducing him or her to their world, their family. After all, your Mom & Dad, and most of your family, remember more of your birthdays than you do! All of your family remembers those first days, when they first laid eyes on your tiny face and fingers and toes. Your family remembers your first days and first years. Those are special, special memories to them.
So when your birthday rolls around...don't glum and think...uhhh, another year older. And don't say "its no big deal". It is absolutely a big deal, and if not to you, then to your family ....especially Mom & Dad. They celebrate that day as much as you do, so smile, and be proud of your birthday, and celebrate WITH them!
Happy birthday to you, whenever that comes around....be proud, tell people, and announce your age with authority! Celebrate, eat cake, take a picture....and for heaven's sake, go hug your Mom & Dad! no really, go hug them, and get a picture with them, too...
Happy 3rd Birthday to my sweet Jack!
oh my goodness what a sweet Jackers! happy birthday!!! we love you! xoxox
